The loss of some well recognized model airplane engine brands in recent years has demonstrated how the RC market has demanded continual improvement and upgraded performance from the engine manufacturers. Evolution Engines and its line of quality, innovative, and excellent-performing model aircraft and helicopter engines came about to meet these needs for modelers everywhere.

Horizon Hobby had long recognized the need for a line of RC glow and gas engines to support the growth and demands of the RC community. It seemed many of the products on the market were really not designed with the levels of performance that modern RC airplanes demand from their power plant. Horizon Hobby had previously established very strong relationships with manufacturers around the world making models, equipment, accessories and just about every thing used in the RC industry to build and fly model airplanes. One of those relationships was with a Chinese manufacturer who had previously shown their ability to make high quality products similar to the other glow RC engines in the marketplace. In January 2001, Horizon Hobby approached them with the concept of a new line of engines designed by Horizon Hobby and manufactured in China. The manufacturer was quick to begin work on prototype test engines.At the same time, Horizon Hobby contributed the design, material and specification data for the new line. The Evolution Engines brand was born.
